When most people think of Strasbourg they think about the European Parliament, but not many of them know that its historic centre is actually a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Immersed in Franco-German culture, Strasbourg will offer you the full Alsacian experience. If you decide to visit we recommend going to La Grande Île, an island in the river Ill and an example of a medieval city. There you will find the cathedral and a wide array of different churches. The most beautiful part of the island is probably the district known as “La petite France”.
Strasbourg can be easily seen in a couple of days, but if you also have some spare time then there are many other places that you could explore in the region. We chose to visit Colmar as it was just a thirty minute ride away on the train.
Colmar was the perfect place where to wander around in the afternoon. Get lost in it and visit the Little Venice district…and if you visit don’t leave without trying one of the specialties of the region: tarte flambée!
